2025 BraveWave Summer Internship
Volunteer at our Intensive Treatment Summer Camp for children with Selective Mutism!
We offer a July volunteer internship experience through BraveWave, a week-long summer treatment program for young children with selective mutism (SM). Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder, similar to social anxiety disorder, causing children to have difficulty speaking in social situations (despite speaking fluently in other settings). We are looking for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate student volunteers interested in a summer internship experience with us, which would include learning about early childhood SM and implementing behavioral therapy techniques with these children.
BraveWave serves children ages 3-9 with SM, and simulates a school/camp environment to provide opportunities for practicing speaking in school-like situations. Children are paired one-to-one with a counselor for the entirety of the camp, who will help the child practice speaking and participating during various daily activities (e.g., morning meeting, lunch, asking to go to the bathroom, show & tell, etc.).
Strong volunteers may be offered other volunteer opportunities in the clinic after summer.
